Alcoholism has left a very strong imprint in the social structure of California. This fact can be reiterated from the number of alcohol and drug related arrests made in the state regularly. However, there is a silver lining in these dark clouds in that many alcoholics have started realizing a need for seeking help and the society is also chipping in with their own contributions. Alcohol rehabilitation centers have cropped up in many places of California to help such people in dire need. The reasons for becoming alcoholic differ from person to person. Addiction and damage levels, both physical and mental, also differ vastly. And so are the personality, character and attributes of different people. This necessitates the need to adopt different approaches, therapies and medication.
The world is seeing a spurt in alcohol and drug production, consumption and addiction presently even though the governments are trying to stem the rot. United States is also not immune to this situation. However, many drug and alcohol rehab centers have come up in most states, including Utah, to pull out the unfortunate souls who have fallen prey to the menace. Treatment centers adopt a slew of measures to bring a troubled soul back into life. These steps, which are time tested, scientific and practical are applied on the patients on a case to case basis. Some rehab centers offer individualized one to one therapy. Before starting the treatment procedures, there is a high need to understand the family and social backgrounds of the individual as this would help the doctors and psychologists to arrive at the correct conclusions about his current state of mind and body, which in turn facilitates correct and up to the point treatment measures.
A crowd of concerned parents and community members from this New York City area town convened recently to discuss the alarming rate at which their teenagers were becoming addicted to drugs. Forty-four percent of tenth graders and 55 percent of twelfth graders participate in binge drinking, reported Seth Weitzman, a principal in the Mamaroneck School District. Quoting from a recent teen survey conducted by Larchmont-Mamaroneck RADAR, a community coalition group formed to reduce substance abuse in their Communities; Weitzman spoke with alarm to community leaders as well as parents and citizens about the statistics, which he said were more than twice the national average among high school students.
